Wimbledon 2017: Dustin Brown pleads with Andy Murray fans not to BOO him

The pair meet on Wednesday in round two at Wimbledon – two years after Brown’s epic win over Rafael Nadal.

That day he dazzled with remarkable volleys and showboat shots, a style that has made him one of the most entertaining players in the game.

Brown hopes that stands him in good stead with the Wimbledon crowd but remains fearful of getting booed.

“I think it’s a pretty similar match than when I played Rafa out there,” He said.

“I try not to worry too much out there. I’m hoping no-one is going to boo me. I will just go out and try and play my game.

“Either way he’s the favourite. I can be pretty relaxed and try and play my game.

“If I lose in three sets no-one is going to worry. I will just go out there and try my best.”

The flamboyant German, who overcame Joao Sousa today, was not all laughs and smiles, though.

Following his four-set win he mourned the lost art of serve and volley at Wimbledon, fearing that the slower courts will only conspire against him when he faces Murray.

“Every surface has its own characteristics, and Wimbledon and grass courts should be faster,” said Brown.

“I had the feeling even the last couple of tournaments I played that sometimes playing at the French Open might even be a little faster just from the balls and the courts.

“Yeah, that’s a little sad. A lot of guys that are attacking and playing serve and volley, I think we have seen it over the last couple of weeks also, Feliciano Lopez or Gilles Muller all playing a lot less serve and volley.”
