Wimbledon 2017: Andy Murray showed he is fit enough in Alexander Bublik win – Boris Becker

Coming into the tournament with doubts over a hip injury, Murray beat Russian qualifier Bublik in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-2.

Becker says there were signs of the injury but overall it looked good for the world No 1.

“We weren’t sure at the beginning but we are much smarter now,” Becker said on the BBC.

“I think he is fit enough, yes he did wobble, he did limp.

“But I think as the match went on he got more confident, mostly with his body, with his hip.

“He can play tennis on grass, we knew before. Excellent start.”

Bublik started well and had two break points in the first game of the match but failed to take them.

And Becker says that was a vital moment in the outcome of the match.

“I think that was probably the most important game of the whole match when Andy started his championship,” he added.

“He was 15-40 down but Bublik didn’t convert and Andy grew, got better, took his first break points to go up 3-1 and never really looked back.

“Another stat that was important was the 15 aces against the 12 double faults, it’s not a good percentage.

“All in all Bublik, I like what I see. Talented, promising but a lot of work.”
