US Open draw: Andy Murray, Maria Sharapova, Johanna Konta and Roger Federer learn fates

In an exciting US Open draw, Andy Murray could meet Alexander Zverev in the semi-final with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer meeting in the other.

Federer will start against American youngster Francis Tiafoe and new world No.1 Nadal faces world No.84 Dusan Lajovic of Serbia.

Among the other British men, Kyle Edmund meets 32nd seed Robin Haase, while Aljaz Bedene plays Andrey Rublev. Qualifier Cameron Norrie is waiting to learn his opponent.

In the women’s draw, Maria Sharapova makes her return to Grand Slam action with a tough match against second seed Simona Halep.

Sharapova is entering via a wildcard following her 15-month suspension for taking the banned drug meldonium.

The Russian’s appearance at Flushing Meadows will be her first major tournament since the Australian Open in January 2016, when she tested positive for the drug.

Sharapova and Halep, one of the title favourites, have played six times before, including in the French Open final in 2014, with the Russian winning every one.

Britain’s Johanna Konta will play Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic.

Konta, whose opponent is ranked 77, may face Halep in the third round, a repeat of the Wimbledon quarter-final.

Defending champion Angelique Kerber takes on Naomi Osaka of Japan in her opening match.

The first round ties will get underway on Monday.
