Tyrone Mings set to be handed longer ban than Zlatan Ibrahimovic following bust-up

Bournemouth are already furious about having Andrew Surman sent off for two questionable yellow cards in their 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

And while doubt could be argued over the intention of Mings’ ‘stamp’ on Ibrahimovic, there is no doubting the Swede elbowed the Bournemouth defender in the face by way of retribution.

The FA are waiting to hear if referee Kevin Friend confirms he did not see either incident clearly.

If he says he did not, they will ask a panel of three ex-referees to decide if a red card should have been given in each case.

And if the ex-refs decide Bournemouth defender Mings ‘stamp’ on Ibrahmovic was deliberate, FA officials can recommend to the disciplinary commission that they feel a longer suspension than the usual three-match ban for violent conduct is necessary because of the severity of the incident.

Manchester United striker Ibrahimovic, however, is more likely to receive the standard three games after elbowing Mings in the face – and that is likely to cause outrage from the Cherries camp.
