Toto Wolff reacts to Christian Horner’s comments on Mercedes wanting Sebastian Vettel

Red Bull’s Horner reckons the Mercedes are interested in employing Ferrari’s lead driver in their car.

Any move for Vettel would mean Mercedes axing either Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas.

And Wolff has branded Horner’s comments as “mischief” ahead of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone today.

“Christian has been planting a little bit of mischief everywhere between McLaren and Mercedes, between Ferrari and Mercedes,” he said.

“We are having a driver strategy that’s very clear: we love our two drivers, Lewis and Valtteri.

“That functions really well and if it was down to me alone I would like to continue with this for many more years. This is clearly our main priority.”

Vettel is currently in negotiations with Ferrari over his future.

The German holds a 20-point lead over Hamilton in the driver’s world championship heading into the British Grand Prix this afternoon.

Hamilton will start on pole position though after destroying the field in tricky conditions yesterday.

He beat second place man Kimi Raikkonen by over half a second to shatter the Silverstone lap record.
