With Kevin Durant out of action due to a sprained ankle, much of the offensive pressure was shifted to Steph Curry and Klay Thompson to deliver on the night.
And the former truly delivered, finishing the game with 39 points with 22 of those coming in the first half as well as eight rebounds.
But he almost risked costing the Warriors the game late on as the Nets began an unexpected comeback to make it a two-possession game after Curry fouled out with three minutes remaining.
Fortunately for Golden State his scoring prowess proved enough for the Warriors to hold on with Thompson hitting seven in the final two minutes.
But Kerr has challenged Curry to work on channeling his style of play in order not to cost the team in the future.
“One of the reasons I kept him out on four was I wanted him to have to learn how to play with four,” Kerr said.
“That’s something for him to think about when he’s in foul trouble. He can’t over penetrate but it was a good learning experience for him.
“Obviously he was brilliant in terms of his scoring and shot-making but I thought in the second half he got a little wild.
“He had seven turnovers, I don’t how many came in the second half.
“He kind of had his way for a while and he got so excited that he probably went over the top and started making some mistakes.
“He’s such a dominant force out there that the challenge for him is to find the balance between going nuts and managing the game.”
