Raceday focus: Best bets at Pakenham, Kyneton

Mick Kent’s three-year-old filly Olive had excuses at Flemington on Oaks Day and is worth giving another chance at Pakenham on Thursday night, accoring to leading Herald Sun form analyst MICHAEL MANLEY.

PAKENHAM (THURSDAY NIGHT)

BEST BET

OLIVE (R1 No.11, $ 2.50)

Go on her debut run when she finished second to Flemington carnival winner Blue Roche at sale and she’s the one to beat. On that occasion she ran home strongly. At her next start she failed at Flemington when heavily backed but she was found to be coughing post-race.

NEXT BEST

DEPLOYS ALONE (R3 No.2, $ 6)

Went too hard when he led at Sandown Lakeside last start when he battled on for fourth behind Declares War. Cindy Alderson has chosen to take the blinkers off.

SOARING EAGLE (R5, No.8 $ 4)

Unlucky last start this track/distance and class as she was held up for a run early in the straight before finishing on strongly to go down in a close photo to No Reward.

GOT THE MOVES (R8, No.3 $ 6)

Returned to form with strong on speed win at Bendigo second-up. He’s had seven starts now for three wins and two placings (both at this track).

KYNETON

BEST BET

CASTLE ROCK (R1 No.1, $ 1.85)

Building to a win. Gave away a big start but ran on solidly for well beaten third at Morphettville last start over 1600m. Step up in distance to 1875m should suit.

NEXT BEST

ZOOPHORIA (R7 No.4, $ 2.40)

Looked home last start at Moe but was worried out of it on the line by Don’t Dismiss. That was over 1614m and she goes back to 1469m which should suit. She remains in a Benchmark 58.
