PRIME Minister Malcolm Turnbull has urged an end to the cricketing salary war amid concerns the Ashes Test could be cancelled.

There is a looming threat about the game’s future if the team and Cricket Australia can’t resolve their pay dispute.

During a press conference with United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May, both PMs were asked about the ongoing stoush.

Ms May said she hoped the game would go ahead because the Brits always like to show the Aussies “a thing or two”.

She had earlier said it was always a pleasure to welcome Australians to London: “Even more so when we’ve just beaten them at the cricket — the women’s cricket, that is”.

Mr Turnbull talked about his own history with cricket.

“Australians want their team on the field, beating the POMs, so I encourage both sides to settle it as quickly as possible,” he said.

The players are fighting to keep a proportion of the revenue from games, while Cricket Australia wants to claw some of that back, saying it will be spent on grassroots cricket.
