Newcastle’s only signing this month so far has been the loan acquisition of Chelsea defender Kenedy.
Express Sport understands Benitez has held crisis talks with owner Mike Ashley in a bid to secure some fresh talent with the Magpies 15th in the table and above the relegation zone on goal difference.
But speking ahead of Newcastle’s clash with Burnley this evening, Benitez hopes his side will have a busy deadline day.
“We have some time and we have an important game tomorrow, I will not talk about the window. I will concentrate on the game and ensure we will not lose focus on that,” he said.
“We still have time I am confident we can do something. I will not spend too much time speaking about that.

“Yes, we are working on names and we have worked for one month, longer than one month.
“The last month we have worked on the names we had on the list, we still have some time. It’s not how disappointed I am or not, I want to concentrate on this game.”
Newcastle have been linked with the likes of Manchester City’s Eliaquim Mangala and Feyenoord forward Nicolai Jorgensen in recent days.
Benitez’s side have already seen two bids rejected by the Dutch club and Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie reckons the club could be seeing more departures than arrivals at St James’s Park today.
“Rafa Benitez is still desperate for a striker on this deadline day,” he said.
“In terms of departures, we could see as many as three Newcastle players leave today.
“One of them is Henri Saivet who has already arrived in Turkey ahead of a loan move to Sivasspor.”
