Mohamed Salah to Liverpool: £40million is too much because he won't start – Steve Nicol

That is according to Liverpool legend and pundit Steve Nicol, who has his doubts over the deal.

Salah has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield from Serie A side Roma.

The Egyptian has already had some time in the Premier League, having an unsuccessful spell with Chelsea, where he was sent out on loan most of the time.

Nicol believes the likes of Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho would start ahead of Salah if he joined, so £40million on a squad player is too much.

“It is a lot of money, yeah,” he said on ESPN FC.

“It’s a lot of money for Liverpool to buy a player, who, if everybody is fit, I don’t think starts.

“You play Coutinho on the left, you play Mane on the right.

“I don’t think you play Salah through the middle, that means he doesn’t start.

“As far as the squad, obviously Liverpool are in the Champions League yes, but for £40million?

“I don’t think so.”

Salah scored 15 goals for Roma in the league last season after joining permanently from Chelsea.
