Supercars: Scott McLaughlin takes pole for Race 16, Ipswich SuperSprint

THE SCOTT McLaughlin show continued in Queensland with the V8 man of the moment breaking an Ipswich lap record to equal Dick Johnson’s record of five straight pole-positions.

Fresh from winning race one to extend his championship lead, the DJR Team Penske hotshot went fastest ever at Queensland Raceway to secure his latest front row start for today’s 200km SuperSprint.

And he joined his legendary team boss Johnson as the joint consecutive pole position winner by snagging his fifth in a row.

McLaughlin blasted a 1.08.42 on his last flyer to re-break the record he took earlier in the session.

Whincup ensured a championship fight upfront by qualifying third after being edged out by Prodrive Racing Australia charger Chaz Mostert.
