Masters 2018: Why is Augusta leader Patrick Reed HATED by golf fans?

The American shot an incredible second-round 66 to open up a two-shot lead over the chasing pack at Augusta.

Reed is currently nine under par, with Marc Leishman and Henrik Stenson his closest challengers heading into the weekend action.

The leader certainly enjoyed himself on Friday.

But golf fans around the world are hoping Reed falls away from the top in the final two days.

The 27-year-old has been accused of cheating and stealing from his team-mates in the past.

In a book published by Shane Ryan called Slaying The Tiger: A Year Inside the Ropes on the New PGA Tour, Reed is accused of trying to hit an opponents ball on a fairway after his went into the rough during a qualifying event.

It also details how money, a watch and a putter went missing from UGA’s locker room.

After showing up with a wad of cash, Reed claimed he had hustled a professor on the golf course.

The golf star was also kicked out of college for underage drinking.

“Everyone knows why I got kicked out of UGA. Because of two drinking incidents,” he said in the past.

“None of it’s true, and we have coaches that even back it up.

“And if any of it was true, then the coaches would know about it.”

Heading into the weekend’s action, Reed is confident of picking up the elusive green jacket on Sunday.

“Everyone wants to win (majors) and if you don’t believe you can win them, then you probably shouldn’t be playing in them,” he said.

“I believe that if I play the golf that I know how to play, that I can win majors.”
