Lingard spent time at Leicester, Derby, Brighton and Birmingham before nailing down a first team spot at Old Trafford.
That only came this season with the 25-year-old shining bright for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Lingard has found the net eight times in the Premier League with Manchester United second in the table.
And Lingard has recognised the similarities between his own rise and that of star Tottenham striker Harry Kane, who also had four spells on loan.
“Both of us have been on loan and done well back at our parent clubs,” Lingard told Sky Sports.
“People go different routes to the first team but it doesn’t matter which path you take, as long as you get to the final destination.
“I learnt different things at each club and brought it back to Man Utd. It was just about bringing it back here and succeeding.”
Manchester United host Swansea today as they look to make second place even more secure.
Indeed, it was a League Cup tie against the Swans earlier this season that propelled Lingard fully into Mourinho’s thoughts.
Lingard netted twice as United won 2-0 at the Liberty in the last 16 before being knocked out by Bristol City.
And Lingard has praised Mourinho for the way he has been treated.
“He’s given me that confidence and put the faith in me,” Lingard added. “It’s good that I can repay him by scoring goals.”
