Man Utd news: Is this the real reason Jose Mourinho always blasts Luke Shaw?

Shaw has been repeatedly called out by Mourinho since the Portuguese boss arrived at Manchester United in 2016.

The latest incident came at the weekend following United’s FA Cup quarter-final win over Brighton, where Shaw was substituted at half time.

Wilkins says Mourinho is looking for a positive response from the ex-Southampton ace.

“I think he’s trying to get a reaction,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Jose does everything for a reaction from his players, whether he pats them on the back or gives them a little public grilling.

“He’s looking for a reaction from Luke.”

Wilkins admits he feels sorry for Luke Shaw and claims he would have been England’s left-back at the World Cup this summer if he had played regularly this season.

“I feel for Luke a little bit because when he was at Southampton he looked an outstanding prospect at left full-back and it was a good move for him to go to Old Trafford,” he added.

“Unfortunately he’s picked up a few knocks which hasn’t helped his development but he’s just not played enough.

“He hasn’t really played enough and this was a massive year for him as well because he could have been the one going to the World Cup as well at left full-back.

“This fella is a powerhouse of a left full-back down that left-hand side.

“But, I’ve said on numerous occasions, when you go to Old Trafford it’s not only what you can do with the ball, you’ve got to have the mentality of a winner as well.

“Perhaps Jose Mourinho  is not quite seeing that in Luke in this moment in time.”
