Lewis Hamilton issues rallying talk after Australian Grand Prix defeat to Sebastian Vettel

Hamilton missed out on Australian Grand Prix glory with Vettel giving Ferrari the win.

The Brit went into the race on pole after finishing ahead of Vettel and fellow Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen in qualifying on Saturday.

However, after a safety car stopped him from hitting full speed, Hamilton had to settle for second.

Given the painful nature of the defeat, you could forgive the 33-year-old for appearing down in the dumps.

But Lewis Hamilton has urged Mercedes to bounce back.

“Everyone in the team is feeling it but there’s so much great work and so much positivity to take forward with us,” he said.

“We still got second today so it feels like a dark cloud, but it’s not.

“We still got a positive result, we’ve got a great car and we’re still the world champions.

“With a couple of adjustments we can win the next race. I believe that.”

Vettel, meanwhile, admitted Ferrari had got lucky.

But the German was in no mood to dish out sympathy to Hamilton, particularly given their spiky press conference yesterday.

“Obviously we were a little bit lucky today, but we take it,” he said.

“We are not there yet where we want to be [in terms of qualifying pace].

“If I don’t feel what I want to feel it makes it a bit tricky.

“But it is a good start and gives us good motivation for the rest of the season.”

Hamilton and Vettel are next in action at the Bahrain Grand Prix on April 8.
