Striker Edmondson, 16, has completed a move from National League North outfit York to Championship giants Leeds for an undisclosed fee on a two-and-a-half year deal.
City manager Gray handed the rookie hotshot his league debut last month, and believes he is destined for the top.
“I think it’s fantastic for everybody,” Gray said. “I think he’s definitely worth the opportunity to play at that level in the future as a Championship, potentially Premier League player.
“I think he’s going to the right club. The set up and the environment he’s going to go into is great. He’s a Leeds boy which makes a lot of sense.
“It’s exciting times for everyone.”
Edmondson, who was picked up by York after being released by Huddersfield, will initially link up with Leeds’ Under-18s and Under-23s.
Gray says Edmondson has “got all the tools” but needs to work on the technical side of his game if he is to fulfil his potential.

“I gave him his debut as a 16-year-old in our first game against Brackley, I’d seen signs that week regarding the FA Youth Cup.
“I’ve watched him three or four times since then and there’s so much to work with – he’s six foot four, he’s quick, he’s very aggressive, he’s not like your modern-day academy style of technical and neat and tidy, he’s very much old school.
“There’s a lot of work to polish him up and improve his technical side of the game. Hopefully, we see an outstanding centre-forward going forward.”
