The Cavaliers have not had a good record against the Pelicans in recent years and tonight’s loss was their seventh consecutive loss in the Smoothie King Center.
But they have now lost three of their last four matches, including defeats to the Brooklyn Nets and Orlando Magic.
It leaves the Cavaliers at 3-3 for the season so far although JR Smith has been used as a starting point guard in their last two games with Derrick Rose still out and Isaiah Thomas not expected back until the New Year.
The injuries have meant Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue has experimented with some odd line-ups recently and they were no match for the All-Star duo of DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis, with the former finishing the game with a triple-double.
And James has acknowledged their team is far from perfect at the moment, but he is not concerned with their early season form.
“We’re fine, it’s a long season,” James said.
“We’re out two starting point guards so I’m not overlooking what’s going on.
“I wasn’t going to overlook if we had success and I’m not going to overlook that we’ve had a couple games off.
“This is a long process for us. We’ve played some crazy line-ups that we have’t even played in practice.
“We’ll continue to get better. There’s going to be some games where we don’t look as good unfortunately.
“We have to be patient until we get to full strength and we got line-ups where we all become comfortable with.”
