Kyrie Irving: Boston Celtics star backed to win MVP after exploding for 47 points

The Celtics moved to 16 games unbeaten after a sensational comeback victory over the Mavericks and it was Irving who stole the show.

He missed just one shot in the first half but it looked like Dallas would clinch an unlikely victory after growing their lead to as large as 13 in the fourth quarter.

But the Celtics rallied back with Jayson Tatum levelling the score at 96-96.

Dallas had a chance to win the game with close to the last possession of the game but Harrison Barnes was unable to connect with his jumper, taking the game into overtime.

And Irving took over once more, scoring 10 of Boston’s 12 points to ensure the victory.

Boston fans could be heard chanting MVP towards Irving as he made his way off the court.

And that swiftly transcended into fans on Twitter flooding the social media feed with reasons why they believe he should be MVP.

One fan said: “Why are people not putting Kyrie Irving in the MVP conversation? Kyrie with or without the mask is the reason why the Celtics is on a 16 game winning streak!!!”

While another couldn’t quite contain their excitement: “But my goodness, Kyrie Irving is my MVP currently. The kid just can’t be stopped.”
