GEELONG has been dealt a major blow ahead of tonight’s sudden-death semi-final against Sydney at the MCG.

Crucial key defender Tom Lonergan – one of the few who have been able to stop Lance Franklin in recent seasons – is a late withdrawal with food poisoning.

Now understrength, the Cats also have history against them having never beaten Sydney at the MCG or in a final.

Lonergan is the third change for Geelong after Daniel Menzel and Darcy Lang came in on Thursday night for Cam Guthrie (calf) and Jordan Murdoch. Sydney are unchanged.
