The Giants have lived up to their name by extending their winning run in Super Netball to four, taking down the star-studded Magpies on home turf in the second upset of the new competition.

Lead by captain Kim Green, the Giants defeated the Magpies 59-51 in the first match of a double header between Victorian and NSW teams in Melbourne.

It was a match many believe is an early preview to this seasons decider of the new Australian based competition between two of sports newest teams.

While upset in the opening round by the Vixens, the Magpies were favourite to beat the Giants last night.

But the Giants had different ideas.

The side, boasting just one Diamond compared to the Vixens five in their starting seven, produced a masterful display to consolidate their position at the top of the Super Netball ladder.

Key to their success was English shooter Jo Harten who netted 43 goals for Player of the Match honours.

“We were just really, really patient. I know that sounds boring but think that’s why we won,” Green said.

“It was different from how we normally play. Sometimes we go a limitless overboard. But we didn’t tonight.

“We weren’t overawed by them. We just played our own game.”
