MELBOURNE defender Meg Downie is recovering at home after being knocked out in Saturday night’s win over Collingwood.

An unconscious Downie was stretchered off the ground with her neck in a brace after she was felled by a late bump from Collingwood’s Sophie Casey, who is expected to come under scrutiny from the match review panel.

Downie was taken to hospital and released early on Sunday morning after she was cleared of any serious damage.

She is almost certain to miss Saturday night’s Round three clash against the Western Bulldogs at Whitten Oval.

“She was allowed to go home at 2am this morning so she is out of hospital and just resting up,’’ a Demons’ spokesman said.

“She was cleared of any serious damage, but she was definitely concussed.’’

The Demons should regain Richelle Cranston for Saturday night’s clash at the Whitten Oval after sitting out a one-match ban from the MRP after the opening round of the AFLW season.

Melbourne now has a 1-1 record after the opening two rounds of the season.
