Chelsea confident of Van Dijk deal: Star more likely to stay at Saints than join Liverpool

The Dutch defender’s career at St Mary’s looks over with Mauricio Pellegrino forcing him to train on his own.

Van Dijk is looking for a move away from the south coast with Liverpool and Chelsea both chasing his signature.

Liverpool looked to be closing in on a deal for the centre-back at the start of the transfer window before they had to publicly pull out of the race after Southampton accused them of making an illegal approach.

But Jurgen Klopp’s side remain in the hunt for Van Dijk.

However, according to the Gambling Times, the Reds’ chances of signing the 26-year-old are slim.

The report says Liverpool believe they can still sign hin but that belief isn’t shared elsewhere and there is more chance of him staying at Southampton than moving to Anfield.

Chelsea are the frontrunners and believe they will be able to bring him to Stamford Bridge before the transfer window shuts on August 31.

Recent reports suggests the Blues are ready to table a £50million bid for Van Dijk.

Antonio Conte has already added Antonio Rudiger to his defensive ranks but is now pushing Chelsea’s board to break the bank for Van Dijk.
