Betting insider: Who the punters are backing

GOLD Coast flyer Houtzen has been all the rage for punters in the McEwen Stakes at Moonee Valley, while Egg Tart is favoured to make a winning return in the Theo Marks at Rosehill.

Houtzen, winner of the Magic Millions Classic in January, will carry just 50kg when she starts her spring campaign in the Group 2 sprint. The Toby Edmonds-trained filly impressed in a gallop around the tight-turning Valley circuit on Tuesday. The three-year-old has attracted 61 per cent of money wagered on the race.

Chris Waller’s exciting mare Egg Tart has had plenty of admirers in betting for the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes. The four-year-old has won six of her eight starts, including back-to-back Group 1s at the end of her last campaign. While Egg Tart is favourite for the 1300m sprint, Deploy and Cannyescent have been the big firmers in betting.

Meanwhile, one punter is hoping to turn $ 1000 into $ 50,320 with a five-leg multi, featuring Alward, Egg Tart, Pariah (Rosehill), and Russian Revolution and Brave Smash (MV).
