Barcelona have chased Dybala for months and were only blocked from signing him in the summer by a resolute Juventus backlash.
Juve refused to consider selling Dybala, who signed a five-year contract at the Turin club in April.
But Barca remain open to landing the Argentine at some point in order to reunite his international team-mate Messi at the Nou Camp.
Having Dybala alongside Messi was seen as the optimum strike partnership for Barca, with technical director Robert Fernandez sounding out the 23-year-old.
But the La Liga giants’ interest may wane following comments made by Dybala on international duty.
“It is not easy to play with Messi because we play the same way,” the forward told reporters.
Dybala was dropped for Argentina’s 0-0 draw against Peru in the early hours of this morning.
Inner Milan’s Mauro Icardi also lost his place in the XI for the crunch World Cup qualifier.
Messi has scored four goals in Argentina’s turbulent qualifying campaign, while Dybala is yet to get on the scoresheet.
The Juve star has had no problem finding the net for his club, however, with 12 goals to his name already this term.
