Barcelona team news vs Athletic Bilbao

Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde will be without Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez for today’s clash with Athletic Bilbao.

Busquets, 29, has been ruled out for three weeks with a toe injury sustained during the 3-0 Champions League victory over Chelsea, while Andres Iniesta is also doubtful after being subbed early in the same match.

Suarez was shown a fifth yellow card against Malaga last weekend and will serve a one-match suspension.

Paulinho is likely to come into midfield as a replacement while Philippe Coutinho could also feature after being ineligible to face Chelsea.

Elsewhere, Lucas Digne could get the nod at left-back with Jordi Alba another doubt after appearing to indicate a leg problem against the Blues.

Messi disagrees with transfer plan

Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique have reportedly got different views about who should play right-back for Barcelona next season.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claim Pique is putting pressure on Barcelona chiefs to secure the signing of Real Sociedad ace Alvaro Odriozola.

The right-back has earned plaudits at the Anoeta this season and has been included in Julen Lopetegui’s latest Spain squad.

But Don Balon indicate Messi does not want Barcelona to follow through and meet Pique’s demands though.

Messi is apparently ‘delighted’ by makeshift right-back Sergi Roberto’s performances.

And he wants the La Masia product to continue their next season, rather than return to midfield and be replaced by Odriozola.
