Barcelona 4 – Valencia 2: Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Andre Gomes on target

Manchester City loanee Eliaquim Mangala gave Valencia the lead in the 29th minute.

The defender powered home a bullet header from a corner to stun the Nou Camp into silence.

However, Barcelona levelled just six minutes later.

Luis Suarez produced a crisp finish after Neymar’s pinpoint cross had found him in the penalty area.

Suarez was again in the thick of the action as the half drew to a close.

Mangala turned from hero to villain by pulling the former Liverpool striker down in the box – receiving a red card for his troubles.

Messi made no mistake from the resulting penalty, slotting the ball past Diego Alves.

The Catalan giants’ lead was short-lived, however, with Valencia equalising less than a minute later.

Munir, on loan at the Spanish side from Barcelona, scored and refused to celebrate out of respect for his parent club.

Barcelona made their extra man count by upping the ante in the second half.

Messi slotted home from close range with his right foot in the 52nd minute to give them the lead once again.

And much-maligned midfielder Andre Gomes also got on the scoresheet, tapping in from close range after Neymar’s cross.

The win means Barcelona are now just two points behind La Liga leaders Real Madrid, having played one game more.
