Antoine Griezmann to Barcelona: Atletico Madrid line up Jamie Vardy to replace star

Barcelona have been regularly linked with Griezmann, who netted twice as Atletico beat Marseille 3-0 to win the Europa League last year.

Manchester United have also been linked with the Frenchman though reports claim Barcelona are the favourites.

And now The Mirror report that Simeone is preparing for life without Griezmann as he searches a replacement.

It is claimed the Argentinian was impressed by Vardy in the Champions League last season and wants to take the England international to the Spanish capital.

Fernando Torres is also set to depart Atletico and it is believed that Simeone thinks Vardy would work well alongside Diego Costa.

Leicester though do not want to lose their No 9 and it’s reported that talks have started on a new deal at the King Power Stadium.

Vardy still has two years to run on his current contract and Atletico would need a minimum offer of £20million to tempt Leicester.

That would mark a huge profit on Vardy with the Foxes having paid just £1m to then non-League Fleetwood for the striker.

It’s not the first time Leicester have come under pressure for their star striker.

After stunning the world to win the Premier League in 2016, Arsenal were keen on signing Vardy.

But Leicester held firm then. It remains to be seen if they’ll be as resilient this summer.
