Alexis Sanchez to Man Utd: Why rivals would prefer Man City switch – Tim Sherwood

That is according to former Tottenham manager and midfielder Tim Sherwood.

Sanchez is closing in on a move to Manchester United, a deal which will see Henrikh Mkhitaryan head in the opposite direction to Arsenal.

Chile international Sanchez is set to earn a staggering £500,000-a-week when he signs a three-and-a-half year deal at United.

Sherwood says he is surprised at the amount Sanchez will get paid but admits it is part of modern football.

And he reckons the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham would have preferred the 28-year-old joined Manchester City as they are not a direct rival for the Champions League qualification places.

“It’s the way the game is but yeah it always surprises me,” Sherwood said on talkSPORT of Alexis Sanchez’s proposed wages.

“It’s a massive amount of money. He’s a good player.

“I think it’s bad news for every other team who are trying to chase the top four when he goes to Man United over City.

“I think it would have been a relief to everyone if he went to City.

“Although they’re home and dry he’s going to strengthen any team that he goes to.

“If he goes to Man United he’s going to make them better.”
