Winter sun 2018: The best holiday destinations you can fly to in less than five hours

Winter sun holidays are a great way to escape from the cold temperatures and rainy weather in the United Kingdom.

Here is a list of places you can fly to without having to take a long haul flight. 

Cyprus

Cyprus is a small island known for its beautiful beaches and historic buildings and sites such as the Pafos Archaeological Site and the Tombs of the Kings.

The flight time from London to Larnaca airport in Cyprus takes four hours and 25 minutes. 

Temperatures in January can reach up to 17 degrees celsius.

Tenerife

The flight time from London to Tenerife is around four and a half hours.

Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, a popular site from British holidaymakers.

However, it is said that the second largest of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura is affected by yellow fever at the moment.   

Daily average temperatures in Tenerife reach around 18 and 19 degrees celsius in January.

Marrakech, Morocco

The flight time from London to Marrakech, Morocco, is three hours and 35 minutes.

Marrakech is popular among British tourists for its vibrant markets (souks) and its historical sites such as mosques, palaces and gardens. 

In January, the temperature in Marrakech can reach highs of 18 degrees Celsius. 

Valetta, Malta

Malta is a country in Europe, based between Sicily and the North African coast. 

Malta’s capital city Valetta is the European Capital of Culture 2018.

It has an average temperature of 16 degrees celsius in January and February.

The flight time from London to Luqa Malta International Airport is three hours and five minutes. 

Marbella is a popular holiday destination among Brits, well known for the luxurious Puerto Banus which plays host to luxury yachts.

It is part of the famous Costa del Sol, an area famous for its tourism.

The shortest flight from London to Marbella takes two hours and 37 minutes. 

Temperatures in January can reach highs of 15 degrees celsius in January and 16 degrees celsius in February.
