Why Latin lovers in London should check out JUJU’S and its MEZCAL menu

Through tastings guided by Mezcal expert, Jon Anders Fjeldsrud, long-term aficionados and new-comers are being offered the chance to experience the world of Mezcal that’s often dubbed Tequila’s intriguing cousin.

Along with guided workshops, Juju’s new Mezcal Menu offers a cocktails including Highball M&T, Highball Mezcal & Charteuse and over a dozen versions of the spirit to sample as guests are transported on a tastebud tantalising trip through Mexico past and present.

As for JuJu’s itself, adventure seekers can find it nestled in the heart of the Old Truman Brewery, where it now has the rep of being one of London’s most popular cultural haunts with stunning bands and sets, all happening just a step away Brick Lane.

Now the bar is offering curious drinkers the chance to become true Mezcal connoisseurs.

Masterclasses give groups for six or more a rare insight into Mezcal’s special world, its origins, how it’s made, the booming industry that’s surrounds it as well as tastings and the chance to mingle with the Mezcal like-minded.

The new cocktail menu features rare and high quality brands not available elsewhere in the UK.

Highlights include Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, Alipús Santa Ana Del Rio Mezcal, Bruxo No 1 Mezcal, Quiquiriqui Matatlán Mezcal, Pierde Almas La Puritita Verdá and more.

Cocktail serves include the Negroni, made with Alipus Mezcal, Campari, vermouth and a dash of orange as well as the refreshing Tommys with Quiquiriqui Matatlan Mezcal, fresh lime and agave.

Sitting alongside the new house favourite Highball M&T is the Naked and Famous; made with Del Maguey Vida Mezcal, Aperol, Yellow Chartreuse and fresh lime.

Coinciding with the new Mezcal launch, Juju’s celebrations include Barrio Latino rhythm fests with DJ Sergio Falomi and Cuban Sundays.

The friendly and fascinating spot is the brainchild of director Juliet Kennedy.

“The creativity of this menu comes from the talented team we have here at Juju’s,” she says.

“They’ve put so much thought into every drink, from highlighting the best seasonal ingredients to the careful consideration of the history of Mezcal. We took great effort to preserve the classics while coming up with some superb cocktails that reflect modern flavour profiles and trends for our guests.
