WESTS Tigers have confirmed the release of Jordan Rankin with immediate effect.
The 25-year-old utility-back was contracted to the Tigers until the end of the season but has been granted an early exit to join English Super League club Huddersfield Giants.
Rankin played 23 NRL games for the Tigers since joining them in 2016 and returns to the UK after a previous stint with Hull.
“The main attraction in Jordan Rankin is his ability to play in nearly every position in the back line,” Huddersfield coach Rick Stone said.
“He’s played in the outside-backs, he’s played in the halves and he’s played a whole NRL season on the wing.
“It’s a good opportunity for him to come over here and play and it’s a great place for him to further his career.”
Rankin has signed a deal with the Giants until the end of the season.
“I’m really excited to join the Giants. It’s a club I’ve heard a lot about and know are finding some form in the Super League,” Rankin said.
“There’s a strong Australian contingent here with Jake Mamo who was coming through at the same time as me, Ryan Hinchcliffe who has won big trophies at Melbourne, Tommy Symonds, Shannon Wakeman …
“I spoke with Rick Stone and knew that joining was a great opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
