Bucktown in New Orleans, US, was hit with a heavy downpour of rain over the weekend.
The deluge brought with it an extremely unexpected visitor.
Local residents were shocked to see a seven-foot-long alligator crawling out of a small rectangular drain in the middle of the street.
To make matters even more terrifying, the slithering reptile was discovered just behind the Marie Riviera elementary school.
Thankfully students were off due to the Monday public holiday, but there were still plenty of witnesses to the spectacle.
Local Steven Nicholson told WWL: “First his head emerged out of the drain, and then his whole body.
“I couldn’t believe it. Doesn’t happen everyday, and I hope it doesn’t happen again.”
Video has captured the moment a group of residents took it upon themselves to detain the alligator.
One of the men threw a rope around the gator’s head and it thrashed around wildly in response.
Eventually wildlife workers arrived to take the animal away in the back of a pickup truck.
The shocking photos of the gator sliding itself out of the tiny drain have gone viral since they were shared online.
They’ve been viewed 85,000 times on Imgur, with over 100 people commenting their horrified reactions.
