WATCH: Plane makes terrifying ONE wheeled airport landing as torrential weather lashes UK

The UK airport has been coping with strong winds as a result of the wild weather lashing the country

Video captured from the ground showed several planes coming into land in the midst of the extreme conditions.

Each plane bounced around considerably as it was preparing to touch down.

Images showed one of the jets making a one wheeled landing in the crosswinds.

The Flybe flight was travelling from Belfast and turned to the side as it landed at Leeds Bradford Airport.

Tricky manoeuvres were performed by a series of pilots as they wrangled with the extreme weather conditions.

Powerful 60mph-plus gales and torrential downpours have battered the nation this week amid warnings of more to come.

Five people have died in what are thought to be weather-related incidents as Britain braved the worst storm since winter.

Though crosswind landings can be harrowing for passengers on board, pilots are well trained to perform the difficult task.

A technique called ‘crab landing’ is used, which involves coming in to land slightly sideways, so the nose is in line with the runway.

Earlier this year video captured at Amsterdam Airport showed a series of similarly nail-biting landings.

KLM and Flybe jets were rocked from side to side as they battled severe winds at Schiphol.

One airport known for notoriously bumpy landings is in Madeira, Portugal.

Nicknamed the “world’s scariest airport” and one of the “most dangerous airports” on the planet, the Portuguese landing strip often gives passengers a wild ride.

Video of a Primera Airlines plane showed the flight being battered by severe crosswinds which tipped the whole jet violently backwards and forwards.

The plane flipped sharply on its side before dipping forwards, straightening up only moments before the wheels touched the ground.
