WATCH: Clelia II cruise ship battered by huge waves after its ENGINE fails

Cruise ships are made to withstand some adverse conditions, from thunderstorms to torrential rain.

Yet one ship was seen to be struggling through the waves after one of its engines reportedly failed.

It is a scary moment as the video captures the helpless ship being taken by the waves.

It shows just how violent nature can be against man-made machines.

The cruise ship was filmed whilst in the Antarctic as it struggled back to its port.

The US ship had 160 people onboard when it lost one of its engines out at sea and was travelling against 55 miles per hour winds.

Other ships were around it as it was seen battling the waves whilst its ship was damaged.

The Argentine Navy reported that it made it safely back.

YouTube users tried to imagine what it could have been like for the passengers onboard.

One wrote: “Imagine trying to eat at the buffet with that going on. Your potato would probably be rolling off the plate.”

Others knew a bit more about what’s happening.

Another wrote: “At least they still had an engine running to keep her bow into the weather.

“If all motive power is lost you would probably see people being launched into the sea through breaking ports down the sides of the ship before taking on the water to cause a roll.”
