Volkswagen designers talk about creating the T-Roc crossover

Back in 2014, Volkswagen rolled out a funky, chunky crossover concept called the T-Roc. There were rumors that it might reach production, but it came up on the radar rarely. Then Automotive News reported that a production model would appear for 2019, first arriving in Europe this August, and we got some great spy shots not long after. Volkswagen is now finally releasing some official info on the model, with one of the first tidbits coming in this video featuring T-Roc designers.

In the video, multiple designers talk about their contributions to the product and how designing a car works. We get some glimpses of sketches that show the finished car will have the same muscular lines of the concept and the prototype car. We also learn that the center console of the car is inspired by a motorcycle helmet, and the upholstery is meant to emulate comfy couches. Apparently the T-Roc will also have contrasting roof and body color options similar to the Mini Cooper, Toyota C-HR, and Kia Soul.

Based on the proportions of the T-Roc, and the Automotive News report, it looks like the T-Roc will fit below the Tiguan in the VW line. That makes sense considering how much the new Tiguan grew. It will also give VW a chance to steal some sales from the growing compact crossover segment.
