Emery is set to be announced as Arsenal manager this week after a stunning U-turn on the Mikel Arteta appointment.
But with the club yet to officially confirm the appointment a message was published on Emery’s personal website claiming he was ‘proud to be part of the Arsenal family’.
The message emerged via a site called unai-emery.com, his own official website according to his Twitter bio, which sent fans into meltdown on social media.
Readers were sent to a link of an image of the former Paris Saint-Germain boss on a red background next to the Arsenal badge with the Emirates in the background.
Arsenal are yet to make an official announcement over his impending appointment and it is not clear if Emery has now jumped the gun with his announcement or if it was a mistake.
His twitter bio still reads: ‘PSG coach’ and the message was taken down.
One fan with the handle @Granite-Xhaka tweeted: “Ahhh it’s a new era man I’m acc proper excited. Welcome @UnaiEmery_.”
Another simply wrote: “Welcome Unai Emery.”
Emery is widely expected to take over, but his prospective appointment has had mixed reactions.
Gunners legend Alan Smith said: “They’ve gone for the experienced option rather than the left-field.
“Obviously Mikel Arteta might not have wanted it in the end but Ivan Gazidis spoke about wanting to make a bold and brave appointment. I wouldn’t describe Emery as that.
“It’s not a safe appointment. Nothing is safe in this game but you look at his record with Valencia and Sevilla, on limited budgets, and he competed with the big boys in La Liga.
“He is clearly a coach of great ability.”
Emery’s coaching pedigree is undoubted as he won five trophies in two seasons at PSG as well as the Europa League three times with Sevilla.
