The Tottenham striker made his comeback as a substitute in Tottenham’s seismic 3-1 win at Chelsea on Sunday, just three weeks after picking up an ankle ligament injury.
But Harry Kane has revealed that the break might actually have done him some good and helped recharge his batteries in an exhausting season.
The Spurs marksman has grabbed 24 goals this season in the league, but in his absence the Liverpool striker has shot ahead to 29.
Kane said: “Salah’s done fantastic, he’s a great, great player. Yes, it’s competition. I had the same last year.
“He’s obviously got a bit of a head start now, and we’ll see what happens. I can’t control what he does, so I’ve just got to make sure I prepare well for games and just be ready.
“I’ve got to focus on my own game and my own team, and we’ll see what happens come the end of the season.
“For me, it’s just about being positive. I’m delighted to be back out there and win here at Stamford Bridge, and hopefully I can just have a strong finish.”
Kane though is adamant that, now refreshed after his enforced break, he is raring to capture the crown, and win the FA Cup for Spurs, in the remaining six weeks of the season.
Tottenham face struggling Stoke away on Saturday, when Kane hopes to get back on the goal trail, but the win at Stamford Bridge, coming from goals by Christian Eriksen and two from Dele Alli, has virtually now cemented a top four place and Champions league football next year.
Kane said: “That was a massive win. Obviously everyone knows we hadn’t won there in a long time, but I thought we deserved that.
“We played well, especially second half, and it’s an amazing feeling. It’s great for the fans to come away from this stadium with a win, and for me personally it’s great to be back out there.
“The swelling on the ankle went down quick, but whenever I get injured I prepare right and make sure I do everything I can to get back on the pitch. I do the right things off the pitch, and I think that’s a big help.
“Whenever something bad happens in football or life, you have to find the positives. For me, it was a chance to get a couple of weeks’ break, refresh the other muscles, and get ready for the business end of the season.
“That’s how I looked at it. I didn’t know how quickly I would be back, but I went away with one of the physios, did some rehab, and I knew last week it was looking good and I would be able to step it up. Thankfully I was ready for the game.
“As a team, we’re in a great position for Champions League football, and we’ve just got to continue that. That is a must, and we’ve got to try and win the FA Cup.”
