  • Israel has recently launched airstrikes into Gaza following several rocket launches into Israel from the Gaza Strip.
  • Ullah is suspected to be behind the explosion which took place Monday morning after a reported pipe bomb detonated in a Manhattan subway station.

Akayed Ullah, the 27-year-old suspected of carrying out a pipe bomb attack in New York City on Monday morning, was motivated by recent actions by Israel, CNN reported, citing an unnamed law enforcement source.

Ullah is suspected to be behind the explosion police believe was caused by a pipe bomb in a passageway linking the busy hubs of Port Authority and Times Square subway stations in midtown Manhattan. Reports have indicated that Ullah may have acted in the name of ISIS.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment, along with three others who were injured.

Ullah’s remark on Israel comes amid intensified violence between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza.

Israel has fired several airstrikes into Gaza, according to the Israeli Defense Forces, who say they are targeting “Hamas terror posts” in northern Gaza

Israeli forces believe these Hamas outposts are behind several rockets that were launched into Israeli territory. According to the Israeli Defense Forces, intensified rocket launches from Gaza began last week, a day after US President Donald Trump’s decision to consider Jerusalem the capital of Israel.

In recent years, solidarity with the Palestinian people has been a catalyst for protests around the world. Many Islamist movements have used Palestinian solidarity to motivate action, according to TIME Magazine.

Several protests have also rippled throughout in the Arab world, as many world leaders have denounced Trump’s move as a roadblock to Middle East peace.
