The director of the FBI says the whole of Chinese society is a threat to the US — and American college campuses have been infiltrated

• FBI Director Christopher Wray made a statement warning American colleges of the risk of Chinese intelligence in an “academic setting,” saying that the country poses a “whole-of-society threat.”
• In recent years, the Chinese Students and Scholars Association have payed students of American universities to show support for the Chinese President Xi Jinping.
• While CSSAs are an important support system for Chinese students, the CSSAs have also felt an increased pressure to promote Chinese patriotism and ideologies. 
• There are significant financial ties between the CSSAs and the Chinese embassy. 

When Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Washington on Sept. 24, 2015 on a state visit, hundreds of Chinese students lined the streets for hours, carrying banners and flags to welcome him.

It was a remarkable display of seemingly spontaneous patriotism. Except it wasn’t entirely spontaneous.
