WALLABIES boss Michael Cheika gave the green light for the NSW Waratahs to pursue Origin star Cooper Cronk.
“He’s ultra-qualified in rugby league and played rugby in school days,” Cheika said.
“If the Waratahs are interested and he wants to play, good on them, get into it because I’ve no doubt he’d make a success of it.
“Is the Australian Rugby Union going to get involved, no, it’s for these guys to work out.”
The Waratahs have emerged as a surprised option, alongside six circling NRL clubs, with Cronk heading from Melbourne to Sydney next season to be closer to fiancée Tara Rushton.
Cronk was an accomplished schoolboy rugby player, representing St. Laurence’s College’s first XV for a number of years before being selected in the 2000 Australian schoolboys side.
