Swansea 0-2 Manchester United: Jesse Lingard brace settles Carabao Cup tie

Manchester United went into the game aiming to bounce back from the weekend’s shock 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield.

And Jose Mourinho will no doubt be a far happier figure now his side have made the last eight of the Carabao Cup.

Lingard was the star, scoring in either half to ensure the Red Devils seal their passage through to the next round.

The first came in the 21st minute, with the England international calmly slotting past Kristoffer Nordfeldt after a deft flick from Marcus Rashford.

And Lingard made it two in the second half, with his looping header coming after a pinpoint cross from Matteo Darmian.

Swansea nearly forced a frantic finale late on with Sergio Romero denying Tammy Abraham and Leroy Fer, but Paul Clement’s side were unable to stop United from marching on.
