OLYMPIC gold medal-winning rower Kim Brennan, Summer and Winter Paralympian Dr Jessica Gallagher and Founder and President of the Auburn Giants, Amna Karra-Hassan are the three nominees for the 2017 InStyle and Audi Awards in the Sport category.
The InStyle and Audi Women of Style Awards, now in the ninth year, honour some of Australia’s most inspiring and accomplished women across a range of categories.
“Trailblazers, role models and mentors, these inspiring women truly deserve to be recognised for what they do,” says InStyle Editor Emily Taylor. “I’m thrilled to announce such an impressive group as our 2017 InStyle and Audi Women of Style Awards nominees.”
Melbourne Cup winning-jockey Michelle Payne took out the Sport category in 2016.
This year’s complete nominees will be unveiled tomorrow at a cocktail event, hosted by Georg Jensen in Sydney.
After winning silver and bronze medals at the London Olympics, Brennan, 31, reached the pinnacle of her sport when she claimed gold in the single sculls event at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
“I’ve visualised it so many times and it felt surreal, I just wasn’t sure if that was it — it was pretty special,” she told InStyle.
Dr Gallagher is the only Australian Olympian or Paralympian to medal in both a Summer and Winter Olympics and to make the accomplishment even more special is the fact that the 30 year-old is legally blind.
“The hard work and sacrifice is easy when you love what you’re doing,” Gallagher said,
Karra-Hassan is strongly encouraged by the respresentation of women at all levels of sport.
“I’m inspired by social activism in sport and the power of athletes to promote social change.”
