ISAAC Heeney took a contender for mark of the year as Sydney held off a late fightback from a wasteful Melbourne to record a nine-point win, 13.9 (87) to 10.18 (88), in a match that lex Johnson suffered a knee injury that could mean a sixth reconstruction for the luckless Swans defender.

The Western Bulldogs celebrated Dale Morris’s 250th game in the best possible way, and may have ended North Melbourne’s finals hopes in the process, holding on to win by seven points, 13.14 (92) to 12.13 (85).

Fremantle booted 10 goals to three in a big second half to run out 15.11 (101) to 10.12 (72) winners over Carlton.

The Blues led by 13 points at half time but were unable to sustain that form in the second half to record an upset win.

Both teams suffered bad news on the injury front with Michael Walters (hamstring) and Luke Ryan (leg) hurt during the game and Matthew Kreuzer (heart) ruled out for the rest of the season after being a late withdrawal.
