SOCCEROOS teammates were on opposing sides in the English Championship as Bailey Wright’s Bristol City demolished Aaron Mooy’s Huddersfield 4-0 at Ashton Gate.

Wright was a rock in the heart of the Bristol defence while Mooy, one of the English second-tier’s best this season, was largely anonymous on Friday night (Saturday AEDT).

Bristol led 2-0 at the break thanks to a Lee Tomlin effort and Tammy Abraham’s strike in the 14th minute of added time at the end of the first half, played due to a serious injury suffered by Huddersfield’s Jonathan Hogg.

The defender went down in a collision with team-mate Mark Hudson in the seventh minute and the game was held up for almost a quarter-hour while Hogg was placed in a neck brace before being carried off the field on a stretcher. The 28-year- old was taken to hospital.

Things only got worse for the visitors as late efforts from Aden Flint (79th minute) and David Cotterill with a penalty four minutes later sealed an emphatic win for The Robins.

Football: Aaron Mooy’s Huddersfield Town have been stunned in the Championship, trounced by lowly Bristol City 4-0.

Huddersfield manager David Wagner confirmed the nature of Hogg’s injury, saying in quotes on the club’s Twitter account: “Jonathan Hogg has a neck injury. He could talk but he has had one scan at the hospital and needs another.”

The win lifted Bristol out of the relegation zone while Huddersfield remain third, six points adrift of Newcastle and Brighton in the fight for automatic promotion.

Meanwhile, Reading moved up to fourth with a 2-0 victory over play-off rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Goals from Yann Kermorgant and Adrian Popa helped the Royals leapfrog Leeds while Wednesday remain sixth, just a point ahead of Fulham.
