Royal appointment: Get packing and cruise close to Meghan and Prince Harry's wedding

ROYAL APPOINTMENT

Come May 19, all eyes will be on Windsor for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – and you can get up close to proceedings on a two-night cruise.

Departing Friday, May 18, from Chertsey, you can sail your boat to the moorings at Windsor’s MDL Marina.

Le Boat (023 9280 9124/leboat. co.uk) is offering two nights on Caprice (six sharing) from £1,174, self-catering. Price includes decorations and refreshments.

FLOWER POWER

It might be your only chance to walk through the famous door of Downing Street, but if you act soon and enter the public ballot for tickets for the Open Garden Squares Weekend (opensquares.org), you might just find out whether Prime Minister May favours clematis over cala lily, or box hedge over begonia.

More than 200 gardens will be open over the weekend of June 9-10. Advance tickets for access to all gardens, £15.

START YOUR ENGINES

Tomorrow marks the start of the Formula 1 season, with the first race kicking off in Melbourne.

However, the most glamorous and prestigious race on the programme is undoubtedly the Monaco Grand Prix, held in May.

Destinology (01204 824 619/ destinology.co.uk) is offering a two-night stay in Nice followed by a four-night cruise aboard the Azamara Quest from Nice to Monaco, then two nights in Monte Carlo, arriving on Grand Prix morning.

Eight nights from £2,349 (two sharing), all inclusive. Includes return from Gatwick and transfers. Must be booked by March 25. Departs May 22.

QUICK BERTH TO PERTH

In 17 hours, you could be on the other side of the world sipping an ice cold tinny on the beach thanks to Qantas’s (0800 964 432/ qantas.com) new direct route to Perth which launches tomorrow.

A far cry from its 1947 launch when it took four days. Fares from £793 if booked by April 5.
