Manchester United are targeting a winger this month as Jose Mourinho aims to turn them into champions of England for the first time in five years.
The Red Devils have already completed deals for the likes of Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic – but Mourinho has admitted he still wants one more signing.
Bale has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and his Real Madrid future is up in the air given their pursuit of Monaco hitman Kylian Mbappe.
Express Sport understands Chelsea, like United, harbour hopes of bringing the 28-year-old back to the Premier League.
However, Spanish outlet Don Balon suggest Bale has told Modric via WhatsApp that he is ready to accept an offer from Mourinho’s side.
The former Tottenham star is supposedly resigned to leaving Los Blancos should Mbappe arrive, knowing that manager Zinedine Zidane is unlikely to part with Cristiano Ronaldo or Karim Benzema.
It is said he told Modric, one of his only friends in the dressing room, that he is hellbent on quitting the Bernabeu with Old Trafford his favoured destination.
Speaking last month, Mourinho quelled talk of landing Bale by saying such a transfer deal was ‘impossible.’
“You have contacts, you have feelings, you understand things,” he said.
“I think it was clear that Bale likes Madrid, the challenge, the situation, he’s in a club in a very good situation now.
“I never felt a desire from him to leave, so why lose time and energy on that? No.”
Bale has won every trophy on offer during his four-year stint in Spain, and is likely to cost United a fee of around £90million.
