With Article 50 triggered and Brexit negotiations underway, the UK passport is set for a makeover.
The burgundy travel document’s design has been put out for tender, to mark the end of the current contract mid-2019.
But until then, there should be no changes to the British passport nor its application process.
The cost of a UK travel document depends on which type you’ll need and how urgently you need it.
A standard adult first passport or renewal costs £72.50 if you apply within the UK.
It will cost you extra if you are applying for your passport from a different country, with varying fees depending on where you are.

If you need a passport that has more than the standard 32 pages, you’ll have to get the jumbo option, which has 48 pages and costs £85.50.
A child’s passport costs just over half, at £46 for anyone under the age of 16.
If you were born on or before September 2 1929 you don’t have to pay for your passport.
The Passport Office said: “You can get or renew a British passport for free if you’re a British national and you were 16 or older at the end of World War 2.”
Once you’ve paid you application fee, this cost is non-refundable.
The Passport Office explained: “You can’t get a refund if you cancel your application or you’re not entitled to a passport.”
You can pay for your passport by debit or credit card, cash, cheque or postal order, depending on whether you apply at a Post Office, by post or online.
If you use the Post Office’s Check and Send service by post, you’ll pay an extra £9.75 on top of the passport fee.
It usually takes approximately six weeks for your passport to arrive if you order the standard option.
But if you’re in a hurry and you need a travel document urgently, you can pay extra to speed it up.
The one-week Fast Track option costs £103 for a standard adult 32-page passport, or £111 for the 48-page option.
If that timeframe is still too long, you can choose the Premium option which will get you a passport in just one day.
The booking fee is £128 to renew a standard adult 32-page passport, or £137 to renew an adult 48-page passport.
