MELBOURNE Victory coach Kevin Muscat will be reunited with mentor Ange Postecoglou when he joins the Socceroos coaching staff for the Confederations Cup.

Victory assistant Darren Davies and Brisbane Roar assistant Ross Aloisi will scout for the Socceroos during the tournament, after FIFA opened up more spots for officials of competing nations.

The Socceroos take on world champions Germany, Copa America winners Chile and African champions Cameroon during the tournament in Russia later this month.

Muscat, who worked under Postecoglou for 17 months at Victory before replacing him in late 2013, will join the Socceroos coaching staff, which includes assistants Ante Milicic, Josep Gombau and Peter Cklamovski.

“We’re happy to welcome Kevin, Ross and Darren to our technical team for the Confederations Cup,” Postecoglou said.

“They will be exposed to our structures and hopefully take back some knowledge to their clubs and roles within the A-League. The Confederations Cup is a massive global tournament and we think it’s important that there are benefits all over the Australian football community.

“All three have shown great qualities as young coaches throughout various roles in the A-League and the National Teams set up and will add to our existing set up.

“It is a great opportunity for Kevin to be embedded with the team to allow him to develop but also to tap into his football brain with another set of eyes.

“Scouting our opposition to ensure we are fully prepared for every match has long been a cornerstone of our performances and Ross and Darren will add considerable experience to that function of our technical preparations for the Confederations Cup.’’

The Socceroos begin their Adelaide camp tomorrow (Saturday) ahead of Thursday’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia, before facing Brazil in an MCG friendly on June 13.

Muscat will join the Socceroos in Sochi on June 15, while Aloisi and Davies will provide reports on Australia’s opponents.

The Socceroos open their campaign against Germany in Sochi on June 19, before facing Cameroon (June 22) in St Petersburg and Chile in Moscow on June 25.
