Most beautiful destinations in the UK pictures – with Scotland coming out on top

The UK is home to some of the most beautiful historical properties and natural settings in the world.

With some dating back to the Jurassic period, it comes as no surprise that staycation holidays are on the up.

Instagram data tool Magi Metrics have revealed which destinations have been used in hashtags and geotags the most when using the social media network to find the most beautiful places.

Whilst featuring some well known locations, it also revealed some lesser known spots to add to the bucket list.

1. Cleethorpes Beach, Lincolnshire, England

The number one spot went to Cleethorpes Beach, in Linconcolsnhire.

The stunning views along the promenade and quintessentially British seaside resort make it the perfect all-year-round destination for a holiday.

2. Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland

One of the most photographed destinations in Scotland is Edinburgh Castle.

The views overlooking the old city are just the tip of the iceberg, with it also giving tourists the chance to view the Scottish crown jewels and the legendary Stone of Destiny.

Yet almost half of Britons have never been to a Scottish castle.

3. Giant’s Causeway, County Antrim, Northern Ireland

Found on the north coast of Northern Island, Giant’s Causeway was declared a UNSECO site in 1986, and is made up of 40,000 interlocking columns.

The ancient history was created by volcanic eruptions over 60 million years ago.

4. Durdle Door, Dorset, England

The well-known stone arch in Dorset is on the Jurassic coast, which is nearly 100 miles long.

Whilst privately owned it is open to the public to explore with the bright blue sea breaking through the natural arched stonework.

5. Eilean Donan Castle, Highland, Scotland

The 13th century castle lies on an island where three impressive lochs in the wilds of Scotland meet.

As one of the most recognisable castles in Scotland, it is an icon of the country.

6. Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh, Scotland

Scotland is home to many of the most popular destinations, with Arthur’s Seat also making the cut.

Sitting on top of an ancient volcano 251 metres above sea level, hiking to the top offers a beautiful view of the city.
