JOHN McEnroe is set to unveil his final two Laver Cup selections amid speculation Nick Kyrgios will join Team World against the cream of Europe in Prague next month.

World No 17 Kyrgios has long been on McEnroe’s radar and his charge to the Cincinnati Masters final last week was a timely reminder of world-class quality.

McEnroe told the Herald Sun in June he “would love to Nick” in the Laver Cup.

If chosen by McEnroe, Kyrgios would be one of the New Yorker’s two captain’s pick to face a potent Team Europe outfit.

Born Borg has already nominated Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Marin Cilic, Dominic Thiem and Tomas Berdych for the three-day event in Prague from September 22.

Every player in the top 10 is eligible for Europe with the exception of Japan’s world No 10 Kei Nishikori, who is injured and sidelined for the rest of the season.

McEnroe has already listed Canadian Milos Raonic and US trio Sam Querrey, John Isner and Jack Sock in his team.

The Laver Cup, a joint venture between Federer’s management TEAM 8, Tennis Australia, the US Tennis Association and investor Jorge Paulo Lemann, is a tribute to Australian legend Rod Laver.

The event will be contested in the US next year and back in Europe in 2019 — but it won’t be played in 2020 to avoid calendar congestion around the Tokyo Olympics.

There is a chance the tournament will be staged in Australia in 2021 under the rotation system.
